NHL DFS Cash Strategy

Crafting Winning Strategies for Cash NHL DFS Contests

To maximize your return on investment in NHL DFS, focus on single-entry 50/50s and head-to-head contests. Seek out matchups with less experienced players in head-to-heads and small field double-ups to increase your chances of winning.

The goal of a cash lineup is to create a stable foundation by selecting players that offer consistent performance.

Prioritize High Volume Shooters:
This is crucial across both FanDuel and DraftKings, with an added emphasis on DraftKings due to their shot-related bonuses. Players who frequently take shots not only secure points for each attempt but also increase their potential to score goals. They can also rack up points with assists resulting from rebounds or deflections of their shots. When choosing between players, consider factors like ownership, the scarcity of the center (C) position, Vegas totals, and the potential for goals.

Center Position is Key:
The center position typically sees a rapid drop in player quality beyond the top tier. Focus on centers with a high floor to secure a strong foundation for your lineup.

Evaluate Ownership:
While less critical in NHL than in sports like NFL, ownership levels can still provide a starting point for decision-making and act as a tiebreaker for similar players.

Value on Defense:
On DraftKings, where the salary cap is a significant consideration, opt for lower-cost defensemen with high ice time and a propensity for blocking shots. Defensemen priced below $3,500 on DraftKings and $4,500 on FanDuel can offer great value. Look for those with significant ice time, as this correlates strongly with fantasy points, especially for defensemen in the $2,800-$3,500 range.

Vegas Total and Blocked Shots:
A high Vegas Total indicates a better chance for these value defensemen to earn assists. Additionally, those with a high rate of blocked shots offer a solid floor at an affordable price, with the potential to hit DraftKings' bonus for 3+ blocked shots.

Flex Utility with Wingers:
Generally, wingers have the highest floor/ceiling combination since they shoot the puck most frequently. On DraftKings, there's an advantage in aiming for 'double bonus' defensemen who can reach the bonuses for both shots on goal and blocked shots. However, it's essential not to over-allocate your salary to defensemen at the expense of securing top-tier centers and shooters.

To Stack or Not to Stack:
Stacking isn't a must in low-risk lineups, but it can be beneficial, especially in smaller or medium-sized slates. On DraftKings, look for players who have a high likelihood of hitting shot or block bonuses. On FanDuel, where there are no bonuses for shots and blocks, consider players who can benefit from power play points.

Power Play Participation:
Players involved in power plays have higher scoring potential. Typically, your chosen high-volume shooters will already have significant roles in power plays.

Choosing a Goalie:
Select goalies from teams that are heavily favored to win.

Salary Utilization:
Spend your salary wisely; DFS pricing algorithms are generally efficient. Aim to use your entire salary cap, leaving no more than $500 on the table, to ensure you're maximizing the value of your lineup.

By following these guidelines, you can construct low-risk lineups that offer a steady path to earning in NHL DFS contests.
